is located in the north-east part of the Gironde department,
8 km east of the city of Libourne and 40 km north-east
of Bordeaux.

Saint-Emilion
appellation is part of the larger Bordeaux region. It
is one of the area's largest appellations in terms of
surface area, with 5,400 hectares, or about 6% of all
Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée wines produced in the
Gironde. Saint-Emilion's
average production amounts to about 290,000 hectolitres
a year, or the equivalent of 5% of all AOC wines in
Bordeaux.
